DIVA KNITTING CONTEST!!!!

I’ve been thinking about having a little blog contest for a while. After reading Drew’s blog, an idea struck (well, not so much “struck” as “I am totally borrowing this idea”). So here it is…the first Diva Knitting contest…

What can you win???

GRAND PRIZE: 13 skeins of Jo Sharp Classic DK Wool Heather in Scarlet. This is a lovely 100% wool yarn that sells for $6.95 at Herrschners.com A $90 value…yours totally free if you win the contest.

Diva Knitting Challenge Rules:

1. Post a comment here…I’d like to get an idea of how many people will be accepting the challenge. You can save the button above and link to the contest from your site, but it’s certainly not required.

2. Make an 8 inch by 8 inch square (that’s 20.3 cm by 20.3 cm for everyone outside the U.S… can’t believe we’ve never switched to metric). You can use any pattern, any yarn, crochet or knit. This would be a great time to try something you’ve always wanted to learn or to show off your favorite stitch.

3. There is no limit to the number of squares you can send. Each square will earn one entry into the drawing for the grand prize.

4. Use the contact form to let me know your square is coming. I’ll send you my address. Send your square with your name, mailing address, email address and web address.

5. Wait patiently until the end of the contest.

6. All entries must be received by Saturday, October 22, 2005. I will post a picture of each square in my gallery, along with a link to the entrant’s blog.

7. On Monday October 24th, I’ll draw one name from all of the entries to receive the grand prize. Depending on the number of entries, I may also draw some “runner up” names for other prizes.

By now you may be wondering what I will do with the squares. It would be a shame to offer this challenge and have the squares go to waste, so my intentions are twofold…one totally selfish, one not. Selfish: I’m going to make an afghan for myself to be used for warmth and inspiration as I knit this winter. Not selfish: All remaining squares will be made into afghan/afghans to be donated either directly to Katrina victims or Crafter’s United Katrina relief.

Obviously, I am hoping for a lot of squares, so please help spread the word! In the event I get LOTS of squares, I may need some help getting the donation afghans ready (it would be WONDERFUL to have that problem). Let me know if you would like to help.

I will give it a try, I am not very good at winging something off the top of my head in knitting and be able to come up with a correct size. Still a newbie and have no ida how to make something come out 8 x 8 without a pattern. Any suggestions and I will go for it.

What a great idea! good thinking CK!

(On my blog, you asked about the pattern I am using for the Cami: it is from the book Weekend Knitting by Melanie Falick — great book, and this pattern has been on my list forever!)

Take care~

What a great idea! If only I had ANY crocheting talent whatsoever, I would love to participate.

I tried crocheting two winters ago — made scarfs for all of my friends. They were kind enough to wear them. :)

:knit: What a delightful idea! I can certainly spare a square!

21 BonnieNo Gravatar { 09.16.05 at 6:58 am }

I’ll give it a go! I’ll see if I can get the Northeast Knitters involved, too. But if one of them wins, I’ll have to wrestle them for the prize!

That’s a lot of incentive :)

I was thinking about that lately. i.e. how a foreigner like me could help in the cause.

HEy DIva!! I’ll TRY my best to whip off a few to add to the fun! I’m currently spearheading a square making knitting mission for Katrina Afghans — but I’m speadheading it in CHINA! It’s amazing how these ladies all wanted to help out folks in the USA! Really heart-warming.
I’d send you a few of my squares (that I make) from this — but ours are 12″ x 12″. :knit:
I’ve commited myself to 20 squares for that! If I finish in time — I’ll send on over what ever I can whip up!!
Cheers!
Kimberli
