Chicago Knitapalooza

I sit here barely able to turn my head and yet still planning my little yarn tour for the weekend. I shall elaborate. Anyone remember that I had shoulder surgery in June? Overall, recovery has been pretty good, but I still have good and bad days. Prior to the surgery, my left side was my favorite side on which to sleep. Often my left side was the only position in which I could fall asleep despite the pain of the injury. Habit, I guess. Immediately following the surgery, I wasn’t allowed to sleep on that shoulder for obvious reasons. I have just recently begun trying to sleep on my left side again. It always hurts to varying degrees when I wake up but the pain usually dissipates pretty quickly. Yesterday, pain? Yes. Dissipation? Not so much. I planned to meet a friend to work out on a trial membership I just received to Mercy Healthplex. It’s only two miles from my house so I ran up there to meet her (yes, I am still easing back into my running routine which was also limited by the injury/surgery) and thought that my shoulder would surely loosen up as I went. It seemed a little better when I got there so we proceeded to lift and do some machines then I ran back home. By the time I left lunch with another friend, I couldn’t even turn my head to back out of the parking space. Since we were going to a wine tasting last night, pain pills weren’t an option. I thought maybe the wine would help, which it did, a little. So after wine…pain pills still not an option. Fortunately I was able to get to sleep (ah, the miracle of alcohol) but woke up practically screaming at 3 am. Now pain pills were in order! To cut to the chase, I can turn my head a little now which means I will probably be able to drive tomorrow.

So back to the original thought of this post…KH knitfest in Chicago. My knit geekiness much confirmed by the fact I am willing to drive five hours to knit with people I have only met online. They are REALLY great people, but still, five hours??? My brain must’ve turned to wool. This meeting has been in the works for weeks so I would hate to miss it. Especially since two of the first people I met through KH are hosting a knit “slumber party” in my (and Wendie’s) honor Friday night. We are planning food, wine, KUI (knitting under the influence), staying up late and bra freezing (um, how old am I?). Then more knitting with serval other great KH ladies on Saturday at a LYS where we will be eligible for 20% off our purchases!

Knitters are a really special group of people. How many people do you know that would offer lodging in their home to a stranger; someone they’ve never met in person? Not many I’m sure. However, Kelly is a brave, sweet, trusting soul with a big strong husband and a couple of scary watchdogs. I can’t believe how generous she has been offering to let me stay with her and I’m really looking forward to finally meeting her in person. Oh, and Kelly, I promise the only thing in your house that might be in danger of this major Cincinnati knit geek is your yarn. Lock up your stash and put the dogs on alert!

I’m so sorry to hear about all the pain you’re in. :-( Definitely no fun. I hope you feel better soon- and I’m sure the fun weekend you have planned will help!! KUI, bra freezing…what could be better? ;-) It’s so cool to be able to meet fellow knit bloggers!! Have lots of fun and be sure to post lots of (the G-rated ;-)) pics!

Hi! I’m not sure if you got the comment I left earlier today or not…I don’t seem to see it, so at the risk of repeating myself, I’ll try leaving it again. :-) I’m so sorry to hear that you’re in so much pain. That’s definitely not fun. I hope you feel better soon- and the fun weekend you have planned sounds like it will help! ;-) KUI and bra-freezing, huh? Too fun!! Knit bloggers are the best. :-) BTW, thanks so much for sharing your wedding-foot-in-the-mouth disaster story- makes me feel better to know that others have done similar things. Seeing the “bride” t-shirt on “the real bride” after congratulating the MOH on her marriage-to-be would’ve made me want strong alcohol, too! So funny!! :-)

Okay, now I see the first comment I left and feel like a total idiot. Please disregard the entire second message- especially the end! I mistakenly confused you with someone who’d left a wedding-disaster story in their comment. SOO sorry about that!! I feel like this right about now: :wall: Really, I’m not usually this dorky. I should be banned from leaving comments!

[...] So, I’m getting by blog fix and what do I find…Julie had this fantastic idea of raising money for a spinning wheel. For each $10 you donate to the Wheel Fund you get 50 grams of hand spun, customized just for you beautiful yarn. I’ve seen pictures of some of her spinning and she makes some yummy stuff I tell ya! Oh and besides that, she is really an awesome person. I got a chance to meet her at my Chicago knit outing last year and she was great. [...]
