being a diva is great…except for the mostly negative connotation

tempting the hat fates and other knit fun

Still no photo of Jim modeling THE sweater, so to distract you until then, some knitty news. I don’t want to jinx anything by saying for 100% sure, but I am getting two patterns published! Again because of the whole jinx thing, I’m not going to say with who (not Knitty, they rejected me, boo hoo) but two places I consider to be GOOD.

The hat curse may finally be broken. After looking for a simple stocking hat pattern, I came up with bubkes. So bravely I decided once again to throw caution to the wind and cast on anyway. This time it actually worked. It was so easy…I may never try to make any other kind of hat again. I’ll write up the pattern soon. I made notes as I went along on the slim chance that it actually turned out well.

Another Christmas scarf started this one for my Dad’s wife Jayne. Paton’s Divine is going to be a great addition to my scarf repertoire. I had never used it before (IT WAS ON SALE) but *something* told me I should buy it anyway…just in case. Although it isn’t my favorite yarn to knit ever (you know kind of mohairy and sticky….oh I just remembered a Knitty Gritty tip for that…put your yarn in the freezer!) but it does make a nice scarf. It’s gooshy, soft and knits quickly; I already have 35” and I just cast on and knitted in front of the TV last nigh. I cast on 15 stitches using US 17 needles and the “floral fantasy” color. It’s a slightly variegated pink…it was difficult to make it look accurate in the picture. The best part is it comes in 100 gram skeins which will be plenty for one long, wide scarf and it looks like there might even be enough to make another skinnier scarf.

Whatever happened to the Filatura di Crosa jacket? I think I got sick of it…it has been laying around waiting to be finished. To back track a bit, it was a total pita to put together! (Just in case you happen to be deficient in your internet speak pita=PAIN IN THE ASS) Set in sleeves…what the hell does that mean? I can sew and all but trying to get that to look right was just about impossible. I just felt so uninspired after I put it together and tried it on (which according to the photo dates was 9/20). It’s definitely not living up to its picture. Even if I add the peplum it’s just too big for what I had in mind. It’s supposed to be a cute, fitted little 40’s look…not a wrap around twice, stupid ruffles didn’t work, sleeves suck sweater. Tahki Stacey Charles took the picture down for their site, so I’ll just have to show you how it is supposed to look. The sleeves I did longer on purpose, but the rest was according to pattern. Considering I used the exact yarn it called for and came out with the exact measurements it listed, one would expect it would look exactly like the picture. Not so much. I may have come up with an idea though last night. Remember how I used “wrap around” to describe it? Well if I added belts to the tips of the front, it could work as a wraparound. My genius never ceases to amaze.:rofl: I can totally prove that through tales of my tangle with the mighty seam ripper…stay tuned.

Sorry your jacket didn’t work out–the picture from the pattern does look cute! There’s a similar one (kind of) in the newest Rebecca magazine, but I don’t know that it would be any easier!

Congrats on getting published! I used Divine for a scarf that I really liked and then used the leftovers held together with Lamb’s Pride Worsted to make my favorite hat EVER. It’s warm and squooshy and kinda fuzzy (but in a good way)

Yeah!! Can’t wait to see the publishing! Your hat is very cute and I can’t believe how fast your scarf has grown.
