Daffodils and Iris?

I’m pretty sure I don’t have to tell you what I’ve been up to day…a picture says a thousand words, or in this case four (I have been dyeing). I know I’m supposed to wear gloves. I ran out of disposables, my dogs ripped the standard yellow kitchen ones and I have no idea where my industrial strength blue ones are. I tried to be careful, but this is me, you know??? (well you might now know, but if you did, I am quite a klutz and always make quite a mess with any project I take on)

I’m really excited about this colorway…fingering weight merino in variations of blue, green and yellow patterned to produce stripes. It’s steaming right now and I hope to have it dry, photographed and in the store by Wednesday. I think I’ll have to see the final product to make a decision, but right now I’m thinking this colorway will be called Daffodils and Iris. I couldn’t stop picturing either one while working with these colors! They are so bright and summery. The superwash yarn takes color beautifully; very happy about that. I’ll be spending at least part of my day tomorrow doing the same thing but working in different colors. Pictures are imminent. Yarn steaming is really not that exciting to see.

Finito sockso

As promised, a picture of the completed boring socks. Just in time to wear next fall ;) I really enjoyed working with this yarn. It’s Regia Silk Color, 55% Merino, 20% Silk and 25% Polyamide…and get this…STILL machine washable! Gotta love that. The yarn has just the right amount of stretch and is very soft. My feet will be very happy in my knee high boots next fall.

Not sure what my weekend knit will be. I’m still working on the tank, but I’m feeling the need to try out some of this gorgeous yarn I’ve been getting for the store. Need to know what it looks like knitted up, right? Likely excuse.

Lurking about

I really feel the need to check in with y’all, but I have nothing to say. I’m not moving out of satan’s armpit, not becoming addicted to Columbian substances,I don’t have neighbors that stop by and contaminate my soil or a gardener that feels the need to kill all of my plants. Life at Casa de Kemp is quite boring and non eventful. I’m keeping track of everyone else’s excitement. Pathetic.

I feel even more boring after listening to a talk that Joy Behar gave last night a the Arnoff Center. I don’t watch “The View” so I really had no idea what to expect (except that she would be funny…I knew she did stand up). She was indeed funny, a great speaker and has an interesting past. However, you know…to be engaging, you have to have some trying life experiences. It’s pretty hard to be funny when life is going along noneventfullly. Divorce, near death, brushes with celebrity and lack of money all make for interesting tales and plenty of material. Stuff to make fun of, to laugh about, to cry about. She had all of that in spades. Me on the other hand…well not so much anguish in the last several years. Which is of course, a good thing, unless you’re trying to have a blog and make it remotely interesting.

Ok, on to the knit. Also boring. Another pair of basic toe up socks almost finished. I’ll show you the boring results soon. Which should be after my boring evening of watching 24 (love me some DVR) and knitting.

OH! I almost forgot. Here I am wallowing around in my so called boring life and I forget to mention the one thing that is kind of exciting! Thanks so much for the interest in my store. I have actual customers and it’s going well so far!

Knitmaina

The past week has been full of knitting and knitting related activities. A second sock, a top (which may or may not be submitted as a pattern), a pattern that is going to be submitted for Knitty’s summer edition, stitch markers, ordering stuff for the store and preparing to dye some “Divalicious” 100% Merino Superwash sock yarn (look for it to be for sale next week). I’ve also been doing too much eating and drinking and not enough writing, spring cleaning or gardening. C’est la vie, non?

A couple of exciting things this week… 1. I got my first order! I don’t want to invade her privacy by saying who it is but she is a knit blogger and very sweet to boot. I can’t wait to hear what she has to say about the yarn she ordered…YUM. She got some good stuff, y’all! 2. Sweet Marji sent me a little prezzie for hosting Secret Pal 7…a cute pincushion with assorted thread in the side holders. I never expected to receive anything for being a volunteer, but it sure was a nice suprise. Thanks Marji! 3. I’m going be be receiving my first shipment of Rio De La Plata yarn this week. This stuff is fantastic…very similar to Malabrigio. I’ll give a full report after I receive the shipment but I think people are really going to like this yarn.

Birthday Rules

:rules:Although I am still busy trying to get the store fully ready (Zen Cart decided to release a major upgrade two days after I got everything all set up. Damn!), I must take a little break today. It’s my birthday. As such, there are some rules…in no particular order.

1. Sleep in. I can cross this one off, already done. Especially easy since I stayed up until 3 working on the website.

2. Eat sweets. :naughty:No diets allowed! For one day, whatever sounds good at the time. I know what you’re thinking…it’s 10 a.m. and I’ve already started on this one (my naughty DH bought me an éclair). Shut up. My rules. My day.

3. Go to lunch with friends. My friends and I have a long standing tradition of birthday lunches. I don’t know how it got started, but it’s fun.:eat:

4. Knit, golf, run…one or more of my favorite things on my day to do what I want to. And read some knit blogs. I am WAY behind.

5. Year in review. I like to spend some time thinking about the year since my last birthday. Good or bad, I like to remind myself of some lessons learned.

:champagne:6. Champagne. My favorite drink (refer to number 2, although champagne is not that caloric and oh, by the way, it’s my birthday, I can do what I want!)

6.1 Toast to another year of a fabulous life. I have so much to be grateful for and I like to remind myself of it frequently!

(This is a new one for this year)

7. Invite my blog friends to a virtual party. You should try to follow my rules for today to help me celebrate my birthday. Don’t let anyone discourage you! You owe this to me!

Oh and don’t worry if you miss celebrating today…I usually do a whole birthday week. :)
