More Life
After Thanksgiving: So home for two days and then what? Arizona again. Are you starting to think that I am obsessed with that state? Well I kind of am, but there is another reason for my frequent visits as of late. I’ve been keeping secrets from you. It’s been killing me but since I do try to keep this as primarily a knitting blog I didn’t think it would be totally appropriate to discuss house stuff That and I’m kind of weird about sharing stuff like that with a bunch of strangers (really, I know…a lot of you I don’t consider strangers but like I said I’m just weird about that stuff). Long story short we found a house on our visit in August, put in a bid, stressed and spent several days with sleepless nights in which we were in contract negotiations then finally closed on October 10th. We’ve been going out there for about 12 years now and always dreamed of having our home there. Now we do! Just one problem…we can’t move yet! You know, there is that whole thing of making a living and being the CEO of Diva Knitting doesn’t earn any money! So it’s up to poor Jim and he is no where near ready to go. For now we’ll settle for visiting as often as possible and dreaming of the day when we live there full time.
This last visit was especially fun because my little sister and a friend came to visit for a few days. I lured them there under the guise that I needed help painting but really just wanted some “girl” time. Arizona Girls Gone Wild (or tame?) was a huge success. Mostly we cooked and ate in between trips to Home Depot and the hiking/biking trails. Boy does time fly! I was there from the 1st-9th and honestly it feels like I got nothing accomplished (at least in the sense of working on the house). I did however get plenty of fun, sun and drinking done.
Speaking of hiking/biking…anyone live near Carefree? I’d love some input on what you consider to be the best trails. The first outing was for my first mountain biking experience. The friend that stayed with me is big into mountain bike and was eager to share her knowledge and passion for it with me. I got the knowledge and passion, but also a huge bruise that came only 10 minutes into the ride! Thank goodness for helmets. I heard a huge crack when I hit my head but no pain at all. Seriously, WEAR YOUR HELMET. I think I probably would have had a split head at the least with all the rocks and quite possible a concussion. Oh, did I mention my firend is a doctor. Thanks goodness! Always good to have one on hand when riding somewhere you’re sure to wipe out.
For anyone who has an interest the trail is in Spur Cross Ranch Conservation area in Cave Creek. It’s very convenient as it is only abou
t 6 miles away. Y’all, this trail was ROCKY. Big huge baby head sized rocks and little rocks. Medium rocks. All rocks. Not fun. I know there should be rocks involved in mountain biking but this was really too much. That said…the scenery was gorgeous. I plan on doing this trail again but on foot next time for sure. It would also be a great place to ride a horse if one was so inclined (I don’t think I will ever be but who knows…I’ve even got the boots already).
Knitting: More on this later but Lizard Ridge is finished.

um, Hello?
Although it’s really not that unusual for one of us bloggers to be away for a while, I really feel awful about my absence. More for my own sake than anyone who may be out there reading! I’ve come to think of my blog as a way of tracking not only knitting but other little life occurrences…at least those I feel comfortable sharing. To that end; my last month or so in review.
Thanksgiving: Continuing the tradition, Jim and I flew to Florida to spend Thanksgiving with his mom and her friend. A few bottles of wine and a few pounds of turkey later, we left happy, full and somewhat rested if a little heavier.
I was then home for two days in which I received my latest fiber treat…a wheel (pics later…I wasn’t even home long enough to put it together)! Since I know you’ll be wondering, it’s an Ashford Traveller. Since I already purchase fiber and accessories from the Ashford dealer it was a convenient chose. It also happens to be a nice, solid versatile wheel based on what I have read about it. I know, I know…I’ve said lots of times that I wanted to avoid ever buying one to avoid yet another expensive and time consuming hobby. Turns out the lure of hand dyed, hand spun fiber is too great. I’ve never even spindle spun y’all but I’m looking forward to the experience of learning on my own (at least initially). Turns out just like in knitting, there are not only several helpful spinning blogs but also a plethora of videos, books, articles and things of that nature. I couldn’t resist that phrase. Does anyone else watch Conan? The guy that does the impression of Arnold Schwarzenegger is hysterical…and the like. Cracks me up every time…
