What was I thinking?

luckysockMy latest knitting involves letterboxing.  Since I first learned about l&voutsideletterboxing through the Lime and Violet podcast, I thought it was only appropriate my first plant should be an homage to them.  I wanted the box to reflect them at least a little so I stared with a lime colored lock and lock box and a lime mechanical pencil.  Then the stamp.  I’m not the l&vstampbest artist in the world but I think you can at least tell that there is a citrus fruit and flower.  I felt there should be yarn and a sock involved (quite appropriate) so I made a mini l&vinsideviolet “good luletterboxtopck” sock for the first finder and an inexpensive violet colored bracelet (so what if a guy finds it…surely he’ll know someone to give it to).  Finally, I got permission from Ms l&vcontentsViolet herself to use the Lime and Violet website image for the front of the log book.  It’s called “Lime and Violet Letterbox, Arizona Edition #1″.  I’m thinking there might be some other crazy listeners that decide to do this too so maybe there will be a whole series!  I’m going out to plant it today and I’ll give the link later.1

I’ve also been working on another pair of bed socks for Sheila (in Louisa Harding Kimono Angora) and Erica’s birthday sweater in Blue Sky Bulky duotones.  This might be a good time to mention where you can HEAR more about my current projects.  I’ve just recorded my first podcast!  Between hunting for stamps in the desert, taking 11 mile hikes and starting a podcast, I know that this time I have truly lost my mind.  I just hope Jim gets here soon enough to save me from myself.

More letterboxing after the jump…skip if you’ve had enough of that!

On Friday, I decided to go after the Southwestern Skies letterboxes.  This was a series of four and quite close to my house.  In fact, across the street from me is P.A. Seitts Preserve…at least on of their trails connects to Cave Creek Regional Park where the letterboxes are located.  Jim and I have taken parts of this hike quite a few times.  Since it was “only” 4 miles to the letterbox trail head from my house, I decided to just hike the whole thing, for a total of 11.  I’m shocked I can even move right now!  Isn’t it interesting what the motivation of a stamp will do to a person?  Anyway, this is probably a good place to mention that there is a creek crossing.  We’ve had quite a bit of rain lately.  In fact, while my dad and Jayne were still here we went to take a look at the creek. It’s hard to believe a creek in the middle of the desert every has that much water in it.  When I crossed (several days after the videos) it was much calmer but still deep enough that I couldn’t cross on rocks like I usually do.  Having wet feet the whole hike might have been worth it had I actually found the letterboxes.  Not. Even. One. Single. Stupid. Box.  In 11 miles.  At least I had my iPod to keep me company.

  1. I’m looking outside and it’s raining right now but I already put the date on it so into the rain I go! []

So fun to read your blog , must try the podacast! (just got here through JenLa). I used to letterbox a lot, we were always missing boxes, especially if the clues were like “walk twenty paces beyond the boulder that looks like a hamburger” What boulder DOESN”T look like a hamburger when you want it to??
